PAUL CHAIN VIOLET THEATRE 'DETACHING FROM SATAN' TAPE

Paul Chain Violet Theatre was a pioneering Italian experimental doom project led by Paul Chain (born Paolo Catena), who founded the band in 1984. The project is renowned for its progressiveness, and many songs feature a heavy blend of psychedelic and occult elements on top of their unique take on doom.

There was often no fixed lineup and dozens of musicians would collaborate with Paul Chain over the lifetime of the project. Quite interesting is the music's consistent and nearly complete lack of intelligible lyrics. Instead, Paul Chain mainly sings phonetically in a sort of language that seems both familiar and unearthly.

The first EP 'Detaching From Satan' perhaps could have been alternatively named 'Detaching From Death SS' (Paul Chain's first band) — there is a distinct departure from the brand of heavy metal that he had previously associated with.

The music of 'Detaching From Satan' is undeniably experimental, perhaps approaching avant garde, especially as "doom metal" was still in its infancy. Dark, gloomy, raw... and sometimes just straight up mystical. It is an absolute cult (and occult) classic, and we can't wait to share it with you.
